Survival of the Dead
| |
On a small island off North America's coast, the dead rise to menace the living. Yet, the islanders can't bring themselves to exterminate their loved ones despite the growing danger from those they once held dear. A rebel among them hunts down all the zombies he can find only to be banished from the island for assassinating his neighbors and friends.
On the mainland, bent on revenge, he encounters a small band of survivors in in search of an oasis on which to build a new life. Barely surviving an attack from a mass of ravenous flesh-eaters they commandeer a zombie-infested ferry and sail to the island. There, to their horror, they discover the locals have chained the dead inside their homes, pretending to live "normal" lives...with bloody consequences.
What ensues is a desperate struggle for survival and the answer to a question never posed in Romero's Dead films: Can the living ever live in peace with the dead?

I watched survival last night and I'm a little mixed on it story is ok and is more of a sequel to day than the rest but oh my fucking god what the fuck happened with the FX this has some of the cheapest cgi I've seen for a while in places the FX are ok in others they are so bad, Why why why.Surely this wasn't that low budget I've seen home made cgi effects better than these, Go back to days of old the FX in DAY are lightyears ahead of these.
(
Some of the script is laughably bad and the acting is ropey. I give this 6/10 I can't really recommend it and I really think Romero should walk away now before he tarnishes his name any more if you wanna look at a film Romero made well look at 1988s Monkey Shines or 1990s Two Evil Eyes he made with Argento. They were the last of his films that were actually any good. I've read through the comments and I am starting to agree that Romero is a vastly over rated director who hit gold with the DEAD TRILOGY and not alot else.
sorry but its got to the stage where zombie films are made to make people laugh and the story of zombies eating animals the for me the end of zombie films ill give this one a 1/10 its time people started back at basics instead of trying to be to smart
Just watched this. HOLY SHYTE it was sort of slow but WHAT AN ENDING! Lmfao freaking awesome Romero does it again! Freaking hilarious Loved IT!
I'm excited to see this! Diary of the Dead was awesome for being a low budget film George A Romero makes zombie movies interesting and characters likable.
One thing George A. Romero gets about zombie flicks there not just about zombies. It's about the people who survive the situation developing them and how they change from their experiences!
cant wait to watch this beast! I'm about to devour my own brain..
HELLZ YA!! i cant wait i love all his films
I'm actually pretty excited about this movie.
I see all of this praise for George Romero and it angers me.
Romero made two good Zombie films, and everyone acts like he is the king of Zombie Movies.
Night and Day are the only good ones he made.
Dawn, Sucked. The Zombies looked like smurfs. all he did was through some blue or green make-up on and say go!.
Land, sucked. Too much CG, how many times must I say it keep CG out of HORROR!!! it has no place here and is totally unwelcomed. If it wasn't for Hopper, I wouldn't even have finished the fucking movie.
Diary, sucked. Do I really need to tell you why it sucks? it should have been called Diaherria of the Dead.
if you want to watch a Zombie movie, Watch a Fulci film, now that man knew Zombies. (and Yes I know that Zombi, is intended to be a sequel to Dawn, but I ignore that because the film stands on it's own)
there are plenty to talented low budget directors who do Zombies far better that Romero. Romero had two lucky draws, that's it. Get over him.
oh and who ever said that this was Original and that SAW wasn't needs to STFU. since when are Zombies orignal?
I will agree with you that Romero is really overrated at this point, after all ever since he f***ed up the copy write on the original Night he has been obsessed with making money. However, no self-respecting zombie fan can trash Dawn and consider themselves well-informed. Sure the make-up sucks (a lot of it had to do with the lighting) but it was one of the goriest movies of its time and it broke a lot of barriers inspiring the Fulci collection. The story for Dawn was the best Romero ever came up with, culminating his social commentary and ability to scare people with situational horror.
I would like to remain optimistic for his future projects but he has been going downhill steadily ever since Day. We need someone to come along and re-vamp the zombie genre without relying too heavily on viral explanations, although 28 Days and [REC] were quite well done. Horror is just in a sad state right now with all the special effects capabilities story and atmosphere are suffering greatly.
im taking a wild guess and saying you loved the remake of dawn of the dead, will be seeing the crazies remake and saying its better than the original, calling 28 days later running zombies. i love fulci movies, but you sir are a cock sucker, dawn of the dead was good for the story, land of the dead was like his originals and was fun to watch regardless of the stupid CG, and meh i agree about dairy of the dead.
p.s SAW sucked balls and wasnt original, watch mad max
I actually disagree with you that Romero had two lucky draws. The man's a genius! He is an amazing filmmaker.
Dawn did not suck. It was actually a pretty damn good zombie movie. Diaries was a pretty fucking awesome idea you gotta recognize that. He just comes up with stuff and generates on the big screen (or in the case with Survival - straight to DVD) and it turns out beautifully. I don't know how many HORRIBLE zombie movies I've seen. I have netflix instant queue on my ps3 and watch plenty of horror movies, a lot of them zombie flicks. Let me tell ya, most of them are absolutely horrible. It is sad how many zombie movies suck out there. Romero always makes for interesting storylines and pretty damn good zombies. That's why I get excited whenever he has a new project in the works. Survival is no different. Its gonna be awesome.
Don't hate on Romero, appreciate his work and collaboration to the zombie genre. He has brought a lot to the table and we're glad he is here!
PS I will, however, check out a Fulci film. But who knows, I'm pretty sure I've seen one already considering all the zombie flicks I've watched over the years.
Romero's best movie is better than Fulci's best and Romero's worst film is better than Fulci's worst.
HELL YEAH!! I'm so damn happy Romero is making movies!!! I LOVE them and hope he keeps it up!!! I really enjoyed LAND OF THE DEAD, and Diary was ok, but he's ALWAYS been the zombie king!!!
Since he's getting up there in age I hope he keeps cranking them out! This new one looks pretty decent and has the feel of the other ones (besides diary).
KEEP IT UP GEORGE!!! WE LOVE YA!!!!!!!!
This looks pretty damn good, I can't wait. And to all you haters (Goreman81), if you hate zombie movies so much then don't watch them, nobody's forcing you. Just keep watching all those unoriginal braindead remakes and enjoy yourself. That was one of the lamest comments I've ever seen posted on here. Anyway, I've seen a few bad zombie movies lately (Dorm of the Dead) so seeing a new one written and directed by Romero has me very excited!
Wow the reason they drag along is because it makes them scarier knowing no matter how hard you run you can't get away because they are freaking everywhere. And his movies aren't about bledshed and killing. He basically does these to show what society is doing. We're killing each other and turning everyone against the other. I find his movies amazing and brilliant. He shows just what mankind has become. And given time, this world may turn into his movies. We've cloned things, what's left to do except bring back what we've all lost.
Its the same old zombie bullshit they are all the same zombies have no excitement they just drag along looking for fresh blood and killing anything living! WOW. pfft at least the remakes of films gives the killers great kill scenes and an attitude, I am so sick and tired of these pointless zombie flicks no respectable person can find more excitement in between one zombie to another! George A Romero wont get any respect from me unless he starts taking after Wes Craven or Steven King!
Thank you Mr Romero for still putting out good movies. All we get nowadays are 70s and 80s horror remakes and Asian ghost movie remakes. Its these rare original movies that actually have substance...And they end up tanking in the theaters. People want the generic drivel force fed to them. Somehow Saw has made it to 6 when the only good ones were the first 2. Diary was kind of disappointing but this looks like its more akin to Night-Dawn and Day. Im already eagerly anticipating
40 years of zombies... and he just keeps going! I couldn't be more thrilled!
George A. Romero is a zombie genius because all of his movies just get better and better. I am a fan of all of his movies and I am anxiously awaiting the release of this movie because if your a fan you know that this movie is going to be good.
Hope it's better than Diary, because that one sucked.
