In a recent interview at Coming Soon.net with star Josh Hartnett he revealed the following about the film: "It's less of a horror movie. You saw 'Alien,' right?" Hartnett asked. "It's like that. It's kind of a supernatural, but kind of a western, you know, in that genre. It's all about being on the edge. The outskirts of society. Having to create your own society with an outside element creating massive fear and panic. Most of the film you don't even know they're vampires." Also, Danny Huston has been added to the cast as the leader of a horde of vampires. Filming will begin shortly in New Zealand.

According to the official site of actress Melissa George, she'll have a role in the film opposite Josh Hartnett. She'll be playing deputy sheriff of the town that gets overrun by vamps, and also happens to be the wife of Hartnett's character.

Josh Hartnett is set to star in the film, which is said to begin filming in New Zealand in August.

Director David Slade spoke to Zap2It recently about the film, where he revealed a possible July start date (although it's only tentative and may be pushed back). He also added the following: "We're faced with a tremendous task, which is making a scary vampire film. There aren't many of them. You can count them on two fingers," Salem's Lot and Nosferatu. "The rest of them, they fall into all kinds of traps. We're going to try to do our best to make a third one, and one of the ways we have to do it is to be more naturalistic than the graphic novel, because it's very over the top."
4/08/06
The film has an October '07 release.

Coming Soon briefly spoke to director David Slade about the project, in which he states the following: "I don't believe there's much of the genre left in what we've written, but it's very faithful both to Steve Niles' writing, and the town and the esthetic--we hope at this point, because we're not shooting until the summer--will be very close to Ben Templesmith's artwork. But we're going to maintain the level of realism."
9/11/05
Well after close to a year of no updates, the film is finally moving forward with David Slade set as director.
10/13/04
Producer Rob Tapert spoke with SciFi Wire about the current status of the project. He was quoted saying author Steve Niles is very pleased with the new script and they've just turned it into the studio. He also went on to say how they had to team up with Sony to help fund the project, because they believe it will be a 50 to 70 million dollar budget. Read it all here.

CBR spoke with comic book creator Steve Niles where he briefly revealed the status on the project. He was quoted saying, "'Thirty Days of Night' has a new screenplay being written right now by Stuart Beatty and we're that much closer with Sam [Raimi] being done with 'Spider-Man 2'...I know of two different occasions where Sam's been interviewed for 'Spider-Man 2' and he brought up 'Thirty Days of Night.' The studio's still excited about it, I'm still excited, we're just waiting."

According to the Anchorage Press the film is put on hold until a new writer is found for the script. Comic-writer Steve Niles was quoted saying "Another writer coming on is standard operating procedure. I'm in contact with the writer and he's cool and wants to preserve the story from the comic... probably more than my script even did. I still have faith. The year off thing is good too. It's the first time we've heard anything close to a date. I think at this rate, Wake the Dead will make it to the screen first". You can read the whole article here.

Tones in the film are amazing, location looked great and tense in many places. Oh yeah and some cool limb chopping, head decapitations that made me go " eeew..wow..cool..but man thats kinda brutal for hollywood".
