I've added a couple small new pics below, with news that the film will be shown in the Toronto International Film Festival September 12th and 14th.
2.11.06
Filming wrapped for the Jibaku segment, and Fango spoke with writer and co-producer Dennis Bartok, where he gave us some details on the film, saying: "It’s the most ambitious and far-reaching of the segments, since it literally takes the two main characters into the mouth of hell itself, like in a Lucio Fulci film. It deals with infidelity, sexual obsession, spiritual anguish, necromantic sex, dead souls…quite a lot to fit into 25 minutes or so." Read more here, and a couple new photos can be found below.
1.14.06
A couple pics can be seen below, courtesy of Fango. The first is from The Girl With Golden Breasts segment, while the other is from the Kubrick's Girldfrend segment.
12.28.05
Fango has a couple reports online for the film. Check'em: Report 1, Report 2.
DETAILS
- The Jibaku segment was inspiried by a real-life event, where writer Dennis Bartok and his wife were on vacation in Japan when they found the body of a man who recently hung himself in the woods behind a famous Buddhist temple cemetery in the Izu Province. This is the same location where they shot the sequence of a monk who hangs himself due to supernatural visions of the underworld.
- Filming is scheduled to begin in mid-November in Los Angeles, and the "Jibaku" episode will be shot in mid-December in Japan.
- Joe Dante will direct the non-segment portions of the film.
- Ken Russell will helm the first segment, "The Girl With Golden Breasts."
- Sean S. Cunningham will helm the second segment, "Jibaku."
- Monte Hellman will helm the third segment, "Kubrick’s Girlfriend."
- John Gaeta will helm the fourth segment, "My Twin The Worm."
- The film has been described as a homage to classic anthologies like The House that Dripped Blood and Tales From the Crypt.
- The effects will be handled by Robert Skotak (Terminator 2, Aliens)
- Tobe Hopper was originally attached to direct, but dropped out due to creative differences.
- You can expect a lot of sex and gore in this film.
- The film is described to be "extremely twisted" and have... “bodily function-related stuff that will make people scream. There are lots of other things thrown in as well—decaying nitrate film footage, 500-year-old Basque witches, breast enlargements, intestinal parasites and more. Freaky stuff."
- Dennis Bartok wrote the script and will produce with the Japanese husband-and-wife team of Yuko Yoshikawa and Yoshifumi Hosoya.
