Some new pics are posted below. Director Len Wisemen spoke with SciFi Wire recently about how he only agreed to return to the project if the studio let him do a different movie than the original. Here's what he said: "I sat down with the studio and said, 'Look, I'd love to do Underworld 2 if it's a completely different movie. And I want a whole different tapestry and environment.' And I had no interest whatsoever to just do the first movie over again with different effects and different settings and all that. And I was able to do that, and they were really behind me in going a lot of different directions than maybe they even felt comfortable with, but I wanted to make such a different type of film. That's what interested me." He also mentioned how the look of the creatures, especially that of the werewolves will be more wolf-like and feral compared to the first. You can expect Selene (Kate Beckinsale) to be more emotional and "human" this time 'round. You can view some new behind-the-scenes snapshots here.

7/27/05
Star Kate Beckinsale spoke briefly with SciFi Wire about the project, where she explains how with a bigger budget there's more action, saying: "We've got a lot more fighting this time. It's easier to just fire a few guns than it is [to] actually choreograph this huge, great big fight sequence. But this time we had a bit more money. We have got a lot more fistfighting and running about and all that." You can also expect a sex scene to go down between her and Scott Speedman's character, as characters Selene and Michael continue to explore their relationship.

Actor Bill Nighy (Viktor) briefly spoke with Empire Online about his current roles, one of which was this film, where he explains how he reprises his role as Viktor for the beginning of the film when they "reawaken the second elder", whom he says is Marcus. You may not remember Marcus since he wasn't in the first film, because he was buried underground. Marcus will be playing a role that will lead to a war to end all wars between the two species.

MTV got the chance to visit the Underworld 2 set and even posted up an article with clips for the visit. You can check some interesting footage and pics here.

You can check some set pics of Hungarian actress Zita Görög, who you may remember as one of the "elder" vamps by the name of Amelia that was killed in the train in first movie. She appears to have a bigger role in this film. You can check some pics on your right and more here.

It looks as though the film has lost it's "2" and picked up a subtitle.

EDITED: Pic removed.

12/08/04
Tony Curran (LXG) has been added to the cast.

You can check some set photos taken from the filming that went on in the Seymour Mountain in Vancouver Canada. The pics are mixed in with regular pics, so some may just be shots of the scenary while others you'll see of some extras and such. Judging from the pics they might have been filming the talked-about battle sequence that's supposed to air in the beginning that's said to take place in medieval times. Check'em: link 1, link 2, link 3. I've also changed the release from November 23rd to December 9th.

Moviehole got word that Derek Jacobi has been added to the cast. They also went on to talk about how early word on the story having more backstory on both vamp and werewolf species is true and there will be a nice 15-or-so minute battle in medieval times.

Producer Tom Rosenberg also spoke with SciFi Wire a couple days ago, where he revealed what to expect from the sequel, saying: "I think the real intense followers of the whole saga will really love the second one. It's very intricate. It gives Selene's [Kate Beckinsale] history, Viktor's [Bill Nighy] history, and then of course now Marcus is going to come out of the crypt. So it's really cool. I'm excited about it."

9/01/04
Produce Tom Rosenberg spoke with IESB.net revealing the status of the film and promises more action and a better story. You can read it all here.

6/07/04
Screenwriter Danny McBride spoke with The Trades recently where he talked about the first movie and revealed some info on the sequel. Apparently he's working on the second draft and the production team is in the middle of development stages. He was quoted saying the film will "carry the story further" and have bits of the prequel added into it. Director Len Wiseman has been storyboarding and is setting himself up for scouting locations.

4/26/04
Star Kate Beckinsale spoke with SciFi Wire recently about the status on the script from fiance/director Len Wiseman, who's also writing the script. She was quoted saying... "It's under lock and key at the moment, but I know that they're definitely talking about it. There's lots of furtive reading of scripts in the bathroom. So I think they're writing it, but I think they don't want to get me involved in case I freak out about something."

2/25/04
It's confirmed that Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment will partner up for this film that's set for a fall start.

9/29/03
Cinema Confidential talked with director Len Wiseman about the film where he revealed some interesting info on where the series is headed saying... "There’s actually a sequel and a prequel that was mapped out when we sold this film. [Co-writer] Danny McBride and myself – there was so much that we wanted to tell in this story that it was getting a bit confusing for us to map out all the history and the wars. We said, 'You know what? Let's map out a long story that would maybe span out three films and let's then be able to tell our film in the middle.' But we had to kind of map out the whole thing to get to the point where we are now because it does have a lot of layers in it. But we do want to tell a lot of that back story and I'm obsessed with going back to the Dark Ages and showing the war when it was legions of werewolves fighting an army of vampires on horseback, invading their castle. I think that would be insane visuals! So that's a bit of what the sequel is. We are already in the deal for the sequel and the studio's incredibly excited about it. I think the 15 minutes [of the sequel] will be a prequel for the sequel, much like an 'Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade' type of situation."

9/25/03
A sequel is already set to happen, but no word if Kate Beckinsale will reprise her role as Seline, though, she has expressed interest.
