The Keep

No official plot yet, but the book follows a group of Nazis in the early 1940s who are assigned to guard a citadel in Romania’s Carpathian mountains, where they unknowingly release an ancient demonic creature trapped within the walls. When the creature starts killing them off, they're forced to turn to an ailing Jewish historian for help to stop it.

PROJECT DETAILS:
Not much is known about the project aside from a tweet from author F. Paul Wilson, where he revealed Greg Nicotero would tackle the film, saying: "...after a year and a half of lawyering between the "purchaser" and my side at ICM, I signed an option/purchase agreement with Greg Nicotero for the remake of The Keep.  Greg is a longtime fan of the book and he's got the chops to do a worthy adaptation." (12/29/22)

Directed by FX maestro Greg Nicotero (AMC's The Walking Dead).

The novel was first turned into a movie in 1983 from writer/director Michael Mann (Manhunter, The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, Ali, Collateral) which starred Scott Glenn, Gabriel Byrne and Ian McKellen. Aside from the notoriously troubled shoot and post-production, the movie is also famously known to have a 210-minute director's cut, which was trimmed down to two hours by Mann. That cut would be trimmed even further to a mere 96-minutes by the studio against the director's wishes. The final result is a film with many "plot holes, continuity mistakes, very obvious 'jumps' in soundtrack and scenes, and bad editing issues." Despite that, the movie has earned a cult following over the years.

Based on the 1981 novel of the same name by F. Paul Wilson.
