Filming was originally going to begin sometime last year, but was reportedly postponed due to schedule conflicts. According to a recent interview with Eli Roth, they have to wait for Addison Rae (as she's currently on a concert tour) and co-star Milo Manheim recently signed to a live-action Tangled movie, so they may have to work around his schedule. Roth went to say the following: "Everybody wants to do it. I’m gonna have it locked and loaded, and we’ll find a time when we’re all available. We’ll just go back for a few weeks and have fun." (1/16/26)
Final girl Nell Verlaque (who is expected to return) revealed in a recent interview that she's talked to Eli Roth about the script and how she'd like her character to be covered in blood and tortured at some point. Here's what she had to say: "I would like to get covered in blood. I told him I really wanted to be tortured. Like fully pained [and] tortured. I think it’s more fun as an actor. The crazier, the better for me." She goes on to reveal that filming is aimed to begin sometime later this year. (5/19/25)
Eli Roth had a recent interview where he revealed some minor details on what to expect from the sequel, which is currently in "soft-prep" with filming aimed to begin at the end of March 2025. Here's what he had to say: "We’re upping the ante but we are not going to do it with more money. That keeps it tight and lean and mean and forces us to make decisions. There’s a lot of setting up that we did in the first one that we don’t have to deal with now. It can just be all pay-off." Adding... "I’ve come up with stuff that is going to be a challenge. And I want it to be a challenge to pull off. Because if I’ve come up with the stuff that I think will make the best kills, then I’m going to do it like I’m never going to make another movie again." The surviving cast from the previous movie are expected to return. (12/2/24)
This project was only announced today by Eli Roth, who is reportedly taking a year to work on the script. Here's what he had to say: "BREAKING NEWS! John Carver will kill again! @thanksgivingmovie sequel is a GO!!! Thank you everyone who supported ORIGINAL HORROR in theaters!!! Go see it now on the big screen while it’s in cinemas, sequel set for release in 2025! Taking a year to really get the script right, working on it starting today!" (11/30/23)
Eli Roth returns to write and direct.
The first film was based on a faux trailer that was co-written and directed by Eli Roth and was presented in the 2007 movie Grindhouse from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino.
This is the sequel to 2023's Thanksgiving, which made $30-million in the global box office on a reported budget of $15-million.
