Maika Monroe confirms via a recent podcast that the movie is moving forward and it's going to be her next project, saying: "We're doing it. Yeah, that's the next job." And on the topic of the script she said the following: "It's very dark. We're pushing the boundaries on this one for sure." (3/25/26)

Maika Monroe once again spoke about the movie, offering somewhat of an update and her thoughts on the script, saying: "Rumors have been spreading that it will be happening. So I would stay positive because I’ve heard some good news recently. So we’ll see." On the topic of the script she said: "It’s not at all what I expected, where you would find [her character] Jay, which I thought was really interesting. I was like, ‘Whoa! Cool,’ which I think the audience will probably have a similar reaction. I know this might sound cliché, but it’s staying true to the original where we’re bringing back all the same team… The story is very much still in that space, but it’s just grander and, yeah, I’m really, really excited for it." Actress Maika Monroe offered another brief update on the project recently, revealing that she thinks production will begin sometime next year, saying: "I’m hoping—rumors are of next year. I don’t need to get into a bunch of scheduling and stuff, but we’ve all been busy. But this script is so good. I absolutely think this movie should get made, because I think fans will be really happy. I think it’s exceptional. We’ll see. Fingers crossed!" (10/22/25)

Maika Monroe had another brief interview recently, reavling more minor details on the film, which goes into production next year. Here's what she had to say: "I just know that David wouldn’t do a sequel if it wasn’t going to be incredible, and the script is so fucking good. I’m obsessed. I’m just so excited to step into playing Jay again and just where you find her, it’s going to be great." When asked if she's ready to slip back into the role, she said the following: "I have no idea. This is going to be my first time. It’s going to be such a new kind of adventure for me. Probably a lot of conversations with David and kind of piecing together everything that happened in the 10 years between these films. I think it’s going to be very, very fun." The last bit seems to indicate that the sequel may take place 10 years after the original. We'll know more as the film gets closer to production. (6/26/24)

I mean, he is brilliant. The whole movie transformed at that point. It was changing the game in the genre, and he wouldn't ever make a sequel if he didn't think it was going to top it . He's very specific, turns down so many… He just knows what he wants to do and what he wants to make. I mean, at first I'm like, “Oh, a sequel? Where are we going to go here?” And I read it, and it's just so fucking good. It's so good. I'm so excited. I think where you'll meet Jay at this point is maybe not what's expected, but it's so cool. It's just, of course, as everyone says for sequels, literally, though, is just bigger and darker and more fucked up . Reading it was the craziest thing ever." (6/14/24)
