This Week's Notable Horror: 07/13 - 07/19

This week is a slow one, with just half a dozen new titles arriving. The BACKROOMS movie officially lands on PVOD tomorrow, while Friday brings the new shark thriller THE BAY to on-demand platforms. Check below for everything notable releasing this week.

Fathers (2026)

REVIEWER RATING:
5/10

Fathers is one of those independent films which sounds compelling on paper, pulls you in right away, but ultimately leaves you feeling hollow. It tells a gripping, complex story about child abduction, but its many layers drag on without advancing the plot quickly or fully enough.

Night Nurse (2026)

REVIEWER RATING:
6/10

How does a shy young woman become entangled in such a sleazy world of swindling? Opening with what seems to be either a sex-call racket or an act of role-playing is a provocative way to pull viewers into the thriller’s seedy orbit. However, this isn’t your average pairing of lovers.

This Week's Notable Horror: 07/06 - 07/12

The first full week of July is starting out strong with a number of interesting new titles on the way. Among them is the BACKROOMS movie, which is reportedly hitting PVOD tomorrow. That release hasn’t been officially confirmed, but it may be worth keeping an eye out for if you missed it in theaters. Also landing on VOD tomorrow are the haunted plane movie BLACK BOX and the supernatural road flick PASSENGER.

Pinocchio: Unstrung (2026)

REVIEWER RATING:
8/10

The Twisted Childhood Universe has done it again, this time taking on the 1940 story of a lovable wooden puppet brought to life by a blue fairy and turning it into delightful derangement.

Lockbox (2026)

REVIEWER RATING:
6/10

After her mother’s death, Ellen—a former fashion designer, children’s book author, and caretaker—leaves Buffalo, NY for a little rural town, hoping to start over and reinvent herself. She joins the local church and begins volunteering as she settles into small-town life.

This Week's Notable Horror: 06/29 - 07/05

The new release offerings are light this week, with fewer than half a dozen titles on the way. The biggest is OBSESSION, which makes its way to PVOD tomorrow, followed by the VOD release of the backwoods slasher PITFALL. Meanwhile, Friday sees the limited theatrical debut of the supernatural flick LOCKBOX. Check below for everything notable coming our way this week.

American Night (2021)

REVIEWER RATING:
6/10

Being an art collector is more than just owning beautiful objects — it’s a blend of personal passion, preservation, and sometimes financial investment. Collecting can be a way to tell your own story, connect with others, and safeguard personal and family heritage.

IX XI (2026)

REVIEWER RATING:
4/10

A clear September morning. Blue sky. Routine. Then—rupture.

A day that ends in ash, silence, and a permanently altered history.

This Week's Notable Horror: 06/22 - 06/28

We’ve got an interesting lineup of new horror releases this week. Tomorrow brings the VOD debuts of the horror comedy HOLD THE FORT and the killer hippo movie HUNGRY.
