Good things come to those who wait, and yeah…this was well worth the wait! Bermuda Island begins with a typical shoot out with the FBI arresting criminal gang leader Diego Montalban (Gugliemi) and decide to transport this human trash via first class to Puerto Rico on a commercial jet. Alongside several hundred vacationing passengers, no less. What could possibly go wrong?
First off, it’s always a bad sign when your plane is suddenly struck by lightning without warning. Next, it’s often distressing when the crew contacts the tower for emergency landing options due to a horrific storm, which is completely undetected and met with an upbeat response “We show nothing by clear skies ahead!”
Uh, oh!
After an intense and frightening crash landing into the sea, a small group of survivors wash ashore and begin to prioritize between building shelter, scavenging for food and creating a raft to sail off the island. Thus begins the initial “Lord of the Flies” motif as the team struggles to stay together or split up, fighting for their own survival.
As they explore more of the deserted island, they soon learn it isn’t quite deserted, as an unexpected herd of carnivorous creatures attack and tear apart as much flesh as they can devour. Only someone who has prior experience with these island monsters can rescue them….enter the fearless “godsend”, Bruce (Wells).
Bruce is the handsome, rugged and endearing lone survivor of a previous war wreckage where he lost his entire squad and has been fighting off these beasts ever since.
Alongside Bruce, the fearless Carolyn (French) and protective Damon (Gelsomino) collectively bring the group together in order to destroy these blood-thirsty demons and return to their loved ones back home.
The only thing is…how far away is home?
The brutal brilliance enraptured in Bermuda Island is harnessed by the almighty Bruce and the uncovered mystery he faces with the help of Carolyn and Damon. The only safe part of their predicament is faith that they will make it out alive and more importantly, together.
Superior casting with (my favorite eye candy) John Wells as the guarded veteran, Sarah French who easily marks her territory with firm conviction, and Victor Gelsomino, the lovesick do-gooder who wants all to just get along. So sweet.
It’s hard to NOT mention the entrance of Midnight (Greg Tally) who’s “pirate persona” captivated me the moment he broke the surface crying and shouting “No, I’m not alright…I got make up in my eye!” Of course, Tom Sizemore always commands attention, even if the role is charming and short lived. Applause!
Bermuda Island will seize you by the throat, and shake up your insides with each frenzied, dismembering rampage. Just remember not to eat before watching.
