The Boat (2022)

REVIEWER RATING:
8/10

Three beautiful couples.
One gorgeous yacht.
What could possibly go wrong?

A father, pregnant mother and their two children are driving at night through the beautiful hillsides of Italy when tragedy strikes causing a heartbreaking accident. It’s quick, unexplained and unclarified.

Jump forward to the introduction of handsome birthday boy Enrico, a sexy and suave playboy who boards the boat of his friends Elena and Flavio with new girlfriend Martina – an equally stunning young woman – to celebrate for a week alongside other friends, Claudia and Frederico. The charming Italian duos are giddy, high-spirited and exceptionally energetic to get the party started. And this party, which is supposed to remain within port, is about to be plunged into a terrifying ordeal of unthinkable proportions.

As they indulge in swimming, drinking and rowdy festivities, the night closes with every passenger passed out around the deck, awakening with tremendous hangovers resulting in vomiting over the rails and severe disorientation. “Captain” Flavio immediately realizes that things onboard are not right, starting with the fact that they are adrift at sea with nothing but water on the horizon. Anchors have been released, cell phones are gone all power is down, and worse yet…there is no food, drinking water, fuel or flares to ignite for help. This is bad. Very, very, bad.

Panic sets in as everyone shuffles around to find some type of survival source and an outlet to the mainland when a handheld radio is discovered within the couch cushions. Thus, an incredible chain of events is initiated by the group’s new tormentor, Emilio. Demanding money and setting up specific situations that test the gang’s strength and stamina, this thriller sets off a rapid ripple of circumstances which challenges their trust and loyalty to one another through the fear and terror bestowed upon them.

The unraveling of tortuous acts and information shared with the once jaunty social circle has now become a paranoid emission of being found out from previous exploits and terrible decisions made once-upon-a-time. Deprived of the basics with no hope of rectifying what Emilio allows them to believe, the anxiety rises to a severe proportion within moments of their realization that they may not escape this nightmare.

When they turn on each other and themselves, you’ll wonder why this ordeal is aimed at these individuals and more importantly…who will make it through this maritime hell?

Remember the opening scene and sit back comfortably. Any seasickness you may experience will be amplified to a 10 after learning the culprit ability which The Boat chooses for your suspenseful enjoyment.

OVERALL:
The Boat will put the “drama” in the Dramamine. Teasing us with personal secrets, cover ups and the ultimate retaliation, the couples learn more than they ever bargained for when stepping foot onboard this unimaginable elite vacation. Although somewhat far-fetched in nature with several finale twists that are not completely remarkable, the path to unscathed endurance looks bleak as Emilio closes in on his expertly orchestrated outcome. However, the unexpected developments which he wasn’t prepared for do complicate his plans and leave behind a high body count with devastating results. It goes to show you that extreme tactics do not justify the one’s personal agenda…especially with so many unanswered questions that never provide sufficient resolution. Beware of show boaters. Or, umm…show yachters.
