Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) have been best friends since they were kids, and have always dreamed of remaking their all-time favorite movie: the cinematic "classic" Anaconda. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation. The movie they’re dying to make? It might just get them killed......

PROJECT DETAILS:
Filmed in Australia.
Thandiwe Newton and Steve Zahn play "childhood friends that join the ill-fated adventure."
Selton Mello plays "a Brazilian animal wrangler."
Ione Skye is playing Jack Black’s wife.
Jack Black plays "an erstwhile director, a man stuck in his job as a wedding videographer."
Paul Rudd plays "an actor who did a stint on a cop show but sees his Hollywood dreams slipping further and further away."
Daniela Melchior (Fast X, Road House) has joined the cast. It's said that "latest version is not a remake but a new take with the same snake front and center, with a story that leans more toward comedy." (9/30/24)
Co-written/directed by Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent).
Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) is reportedly scripting and hasn't ruled out directing. Also, while the script is still being worked on, recent reports indiciate that the film may take a "meta approach" similar to what Wes Craven did with New Nightmare, where actors are playing heightened versions of themselves as they film a new Anaconda movie before things get real and deadly fast. (1/16/24)
Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman, Divergent, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) was originally attached as writer.
It's said that the studio is looking to take a "Meg-style approach to the concept," referring to 2018's The Meg, which revolved around a giant prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon. They essentially want to take "a B-movie concept and eventize it in scope and budget."
The original movie was panned by critics, but was a box office success, earning more than double it's budget (worldwide). It would spawn another theatrical and a few made-for-TV sequels.
Announced in 2020, this is "reimagining" of the original 1997 film with the same name that starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight.
