PROJECT DETAILS:
It looks like this project is no longer in development, as the studio has announced that they're instead moving forward with a new movie that will be produced/written/directed by Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Ouija: Origin of Evil, The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep). This new movie is not a sequel, but is set within the same universe. (5/30/24)

Producer Jason Blum briefly revealed what's going on with the project and why it was removed from the studio's release schedule, saying: "We are definitely going to make another Exorcist movie, but I wanted more time to figure out what it would be. I have no idea what it's going to be yet." So looks like we'll still eventually get another movie, but what direction it'll take and how close it'll be to Believer remains to be seen. (3/7/24)

While The Exorcist: Believer pulled in decent box office numbers (almost $140-million worldwide) on a $30-million dollar budget, the film was universally panned by both fans and critics, leading writer/director David Gordon Green to re-think his involvement in the next two films in the trilogy. This and his involvement in other projects ultimately resulted in him leaving as director and now the original April 18th 2025 theatrical release has been removed from the studio's schedule entirely. David Gordon Green was originally going to return to direct this and the final installment in the new trilogy.

It's currently not known who will be reprising their roles from the previous movie.

This is a sequel to The Exorcist: Believer, which is said to be the start of a new trilogy.
