Actor Josh Hutcherson is expecting to return as Mike in this sequel and offered a brief update on the status of the film, saying: "I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible. Obviously, the fans are amazing and die hard. For me to be a part of it was was so cool and phenomenal." He added... "We hoped [the first movie] would connect with audiences. But I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did. I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next." (1/8/24)

Despite earlier reports that filming begins this Spring with a tentative Halloween release, it's been revealed that the project has in fact not been officially greenlit. This comes from executive producer and Blumhouse Vice President of Feature Film Development, Ryan Turek, who was quoted saying: "...we’re still waiting for the green light on that. We'll see." Either way, given the huge success of the first movie, it seems like it's only a matter of time before the sequel officially moves foward. (1/2/24)

While not much is known about this film, Matthew Lillard has expressed his willingness to return as the villain. He reportedly signed a three-picture deal with the studio, so it seems likely that he'll return at some point. Here's what he had to say: "One of the things I was surprised about is that I sort of fell in love with the costume work. I really found it exciting to explore working within that huge body. In drama school, you do these things called mask exercises, and so it was like this big moving mask exercise. So I really enjoyed that. I would love to obviously continue that when he's spring trapped, but I'm hoping to find other elements in the movies. Hopefully they make more movies. One would assume they would, but I hope to find more opportunities for him to be out of the spring trap costume. But we'll see. We'll see. It is definitely nice to make the sequel. If they make a sequel. But it's definitely nice to know that if they're going to make a sequel, the line's, "I always come back." That's part of the IP, so I am always coming back. That makes me super happy. In all honesty, as an actor, your career ebbs and flows and nobody goes straight up except for Tom Cruise. And it's nice at this juncture in my life to start a franchise in my early fifties that hopefully will take me through the next 10 years of my life. And yeah, it's just nice to have that in a career." (12/19/23)

This is the sequel to 2023's Five Nights at Freddy's live action movie, which grossed almost $300-million in the global box office against a budget of only $20-million.
